The Growing Times – March 2022

February 25, 2022
Number 02

NOTE FROM MS. JANE:

Spring is almost here!!!  Spring is a busy time at GTK as we prepare for summer fun with the preschool and GTK Kids, have graduation for the Pre-K kids going to kindergarten, and planning for the fall.

Did you attend the Open House to see the classrooms upstairs?  It is so exciting watching the space come together and imagine the learning within the space.  A huge thank you to Miss Molly (Turquoise) and Mrs. Amy (Periwinkle) for their vision and time in putting it together.  If you missed the Open House and want to see the space, let me know.  I will make sure you see the space.  It will be worth your time to see it.  Thanks to several parents, we have other agencies to connect with to continue to make the space even better!!!!  Thank you!!!

After much thought, GTK has decided to lift the mask mandate for parents and staff (as long as the positive cases continue to go down in Greene County).   It will be your choice (and staff) to wear a mask or not within the center.   We do think it’s important for children to see the whole face for language and social development.  As you know, we will continue to monitor the situations and update as needed.  Thank you, again, for your understanding throughout the entire process.

COMING UP

Licensing!  The actual date has not been  scheduled yet due to a new licensing inspector, but we know it’s coming.   We (with Randi’s help) are getting the files ready to go.  Thanks for getting the required paperwork to us and up to date shot records.  It is greatly appreciated…. and required!

WINTER WEATHER

As we enter March, let’s hope winter is over. Thanks for your patience and understanding on those cold, snowy days.  It’s never easy trying to decide what is best for the safety of the children working parents,  and the staff.

Now we can think about spring storms!  By the way, we do practice storm drills on a quarterly basis.  The storm shelter is  the church basement.  And there has been an occasion or two where we stayed in the basement for a long period of time due to a “real” storm warning.

COVID-19 UPDATES

1.Classrooms will remain OPEN if/when there is a direct positive contact as long as we can staff the classroom.
2. The person that is positive must quarantine for 5 days and mask for 5 days. (Infants/toddlers will have to quarantine for 10 days.) If there is a positive case in the family/household, the child/staff must quarantine.
3. Staff in the effected classroom will be required to mask for 10 days following the date of exposure.
4. Parents will now have the option to send their child or keep the child home (as long as the child is symptom free.) GTK will continue to bill for childcare when the class is open. If GTK is unable to staff the classroom, you will not be billed. Children can mask at the parent’s request.

GTK will no longer require masking (parents and staff) within the center.  GTK will continue to monitor the numbers and adjust as necessary.

Check out the CDC and the Greene County Health Department website for updates.

If you or your child is symptomatic, please stay home.  Symptoms to watch for include:  fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting and diarrhea.

Thank you for your diligence as we do our best to keep everyone healthy.  GTK will continue to limit close contact to less than 15 minutes and keep a distance of at least 6 feet while indoors.  We will continue with stable groups as long as we can staff it.

If you have any questions concerning a quarantine, call the office.

PARENTING TIPS

The following books are a great resource for parents.  As you know, parenting can be the BEST of the times and the WORST of times.  It can cause a lot of stress and uncertainty:  Will my child ever sleep through the night?  What do I do with a picky eater?  How do I teach my child to share?  Why does my child cry every day at drop-off?  How do I handle a strong-willed child?  How can I get my child to cooperate in the mornings?  How do I teach my child to be kind?  To be responsible?  When should I be concerned about developmental skills/delays?  Why does my child act differently at home vs. school?

·          “Love and Logic” by Jim Fay

·         “The Strong-Willed Child” by James Dobson

·         “Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline” by Becky Bailey

·         “The 5 Love Languages of Children” by Gary Chapman

·         “The 7 Worst Things Good Parents Do” by John and Linda Friel

Parents have an endless list of questions, concerns, etc.  Let’s support and pray for each other as we navigate the wonderful/stressful job of parenting.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          DID YOU KNOW????

  • That the food program is audited every three years?  Shannon and her staff do an amazing job in the kitchen.  They prepare close to 500 meals each and every day!
  • That GTK has many children with various allergies? Please be aware of the children with allergies if/when you bring snacks to school.
  • That naps are required by licensing?  Licensing states the following:  “All children shall nap.  Preschool children who do not sleep shall rest on sleeping equipment at least 30 minutes, but shall not be forced to remain on the sleeping equipment longer than one hour. “
